Love

Friendship.

A new commandment I give unto you,
That ye love one another;
as I have loved you,
that ye also love one another.
~ John 13:34 ~

Happiness.

The essence of love is that what is ours
should belong to someone else.
Feeling the joy of someone else as joy within ourselves
that is loving.
~ Divine Love and Wisdom 47 ~

Warmth.

…love is our vital core.
We grow warm because of its presence
and cold because of its absence,
and when it is completely gone, we die.
~ Heaven and Hell 14 ~

Sincerity.

…the Lord seeth not as man seeth;
for man looketh on the outward appearance,
but the Lord looketh on the heart.
~ 1 Samuel 16:7 ~

Ambition.

A person’s life is really the same as his love;
and what his love is like determines what his life is like,
in fact his whole personality.
~ The New Jerusalem and its Heavenly Doctrine 54 ~

Neighbours.

Heavenly love is loving what is good, honest, and fair
because it is good, honest, and fair,
and doing it because of that love…
If we love these things for their own sakes and do or live them,
we are also loving the Lord above all
because they come from Him.
We are also loving our neighbour,
because these things are our neighbour who is to be loved…

Honour.

…if there is with a man the love of God
and the love of the neighbour,
and consequently the love of good and truth,
also of what is just and honourable,
then however he may appear in the outward form,
he is an angel as to his spirit
which lives after death.

Kingdom.

That every man is bound to love his country,
not as he loves himself, but with a greater love,
is a law inscribed on the human heart…
Those who love their country
and render it good service from goodwill,
after death, love the Lord’s kingdom,
for this is now their country;
and those who love His kingdom,
love the Lord…

Shared.

…in the heavens
there is a sharing of all with each
and of each with all.
…the Lord’s love
is a love of sharing everything it has with all,
since it wills the happiness of all.
There is a like love in every one of those who love Him,
because the Lord is in them.

Interwoven.

…love is spiritual conjunction.
It conjoins angels to the Lord
and conjoins them to one another,
so conjoining them, that, in the Lord’s sight,
they are all as one.
~ Heaven and Hell 14 ~
